Quilter501 - Block 2 - French General Fabrics
Then I continued trying to do this block in Broderie Perse from some of the gorgeous florals. The buds may be the death of me but I will keep trying. I decided to try to do the Broderie Perse closely appliqued because of the differences in the backgrounds. Each block may be different.
I love this quilt....and even the large blocks. I am looking forward to how each background color fits with the prints and florals I have.

Block 2
I completed block two and now I am kind of wavering on how much and if I really like these big 16 inch blocks. A redo of the first two blocks may be happening, stay tuned...

Block 2
I have my second block done. Woo,hoo. This one was easy. I added indigo blue to the block just like I plan to do to all the blocks. I don't want to overwhelm the red, so I just added a little blue insert on the red. The red was from stash, a long time ago, I wish I had more of it. I noticed one of my pictures from last month vanished mysteriously. I don't know what happened. It was my stash for this quilt, so I will try to post it again.

Block 1
I decided to change the corner leaves from the pattern to make them look more like rose leaves, because the buds look like rosebuds to me. I drew out a pattern on freezer paper of how I will place the corner rosebuds and leaves on each block, with a rosebud on each block corner, and a leaf on each seam where two blocks are sewn together. Pic of my pattern:
I am using all red, green and yellow fabrics for this quilt. I am having fun with it so far. My blog is here: Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Block 2
Yesterday was happily spent prepping and stitching this block. After looking at the picture of the quilt again, I decided that I would like all of the swags to be the same fabric. On the FB group someone asked how much fabric would be required for the swags and Gay responded that 2 to 2 1/2 yards should be enough. I am making 12 in blocks so should not need quite so much. I have challenged myself to only use my stash to make this one and probably only have enough of a solid green to make the swags so decided to start introducing a bit of solid into the other blocks. This is not the solid that I will use for the swags but is just a shade lighter. I am looking at each block as though it is made by a different person and they have just pulled from their own collection of fabric. However I am trying to use period appropriate fabrics. I used a larger print in my first block but it is a repro from a slightly earlier era so I think it is still a good fit.

Block #1 Assembled
I'm not happy with the upper right bud and it's position. Do you advanced appliquers know if you can move pieces once they are glue basted with Roxanne's Glue baste? Please advise. The adjusted pattern for the center can be found here.
Block 1 finished
I am excited to be finished this block. Thanks to everyone who shared their variations, I was inspired to redraw my center and reduce the block size to 12 inches. Unfortunately I did not read the instructions carefully and did not realize I should have reversed the buds so I will be reversing the buds in my future blocks.
